Head of Tech Ops - £90,000 - £100,000 + bonus - East Midlands with flexible working 3 day / 2 day hybrid approach
An exceptional opportunity to oversee and manage Technical Operations within the group by leading the strategy for our infrastructure, SRE, security and incident management capabilities.
You will lead an experienced team of infrastructure and system engineers alongside security operations engineers to ensure our platforms and business systems meet the needs of our customers and the business within the SLAs and SLOs for the area. You will focus on cybersecurity, ensuring our platforms are secured using industry best practices and provide thought leadership to engineering teams on how to handle vulnerabilities and remediation.
You will lead the operational excellence for our on-premise and Cloud infrastructure used globally across their brands to provide high-throughput messaging solutions to our customers. You will provide leadership to the team that manage physical and virtualised environments built using both Windows and Linux environments and IaaS/PaaS within Azure.
As a proponent of cloud technologies, you will build the strategy to successfully migrate our legacy on-premise platforms onto Microsoft Azure; this will include structuring career paths for the TechOps organisation to build and maintain experience including certification.
Operational excellence is key to the availability and security of our 24/7 environments that provide critical messaging services to businesses around the world; to achieve this you will allow us to achieve continuous delivery of features that delight our customers in a safe, secure and consistent way through continuous learning and fast feedback through a clear strategy for alerting, monitoring, threat monitoring and user behaviour.
Building strategic relationships will be a key aspect of this role to ensure we have the right partnerships with MSPs but also with Microsoft as we look to build our core platform capabilities using cloud-native technologies.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
? Be part of the Technology Leadership Team, accountable for the operational excellence of our platform infrastructure, SecOps and incident management functions across the group
? Lead a team of c20 engineers who manage the day to day operational running of our messaging platform infrastructure across on-premise and Azure infrastructure
? Implement the strategy to achieve industry best practice for infrastructure management, processes and procedures including patch management and incident management
? Build strategic relationships with our key managed service providers to ensure we operate our platforms using the right technologies in a cost-effective way
? Closely track and monitor infrastructure spend across all platforms and work with public and private cloud providers to reduce spend through reserved instances and capacity
? Work closely with the Solutions Architect, Head of Engineering and Microsoft to build our cloud strategy for the future-state platform and the migration of our on-premise services
? Lead the security strategy for platform infrastructure, ensuring regular perimeter and vulnerability scanning across our infrastructure estate with clear remediation plans
? Work closely with the compliance team to ensure platform security standards are upheld and implemented; proactively remove fraudulent activity across our platforms from bad actors
? Plan and implement the infrastructure roadmap to transition our on-premise platforms onto public or private cloud with clear goals and timelines
? Structure the right environments and access controls to support our engineering teams with infrastructure services that enable an effective SDLC
? Be accountable for capacity planning and management across our infrastructure estate with a focus on reducing complexity and the footprint through consolidation
? Work with internal compliance and security stakeholders to maintain our standards across both on-premise and Azure infrastructure
? Be responsible for managing crisis and incident communications during disruptions to technology services to highlight appropriate user impacts and maintain service levels
? Report on Key Performance Indicators and Service Level Agreements for the global infrastructure and ensure we’re able to meet them
? Leadership and line management of infrastructure and support engineers; striving to develop your team and invest in their careers to help with the transition to Cloud
? Accountable for implementing an on-call rota covering all our infrastructure, including acting as a management escalation point for incidents
? Coordinate penetration testing activities, IT audits, risk events, vulnerability management, disaster recovery and business continuity tests
? Ensure the team can provide support across all our platforms by increasing operational knowledge of each platform and documenting processes and architectures
? Experience leading infrastructure teams for SaaS platforms in high throughput and high availability environments
? Management of multiple platforms with a mixture of Windows and Linux environments across both on-premise and Cloud
? Proven experience in managing high traffic web applications and APIs that have to be fast, reliable, secure and compliant
? Designed an infrastructure roadmap to migrate platforms from on-premise to private or public cloud
? Implemented security and patching best practices across a wide on-premise estate using both Microsoft and Linux O/S
? Leadership of Infrastructure and Support Engineers in a 24/7 environment that manage a mixture of Windows Server and Linux Servers environments
? Management of network infrastructure in a multi-data centre environment across multiple geographies
? Working with development and engineering teams to operate products and platforms
? Experience leading teams through an effective incident management process with senior stakeholder management
? Experience of building infrastructure to protect against bad actors including DDoS, threat modelling and vulnerability assessments
? Develop your team and their skillsets to transition into a cloud-hosted environment
? Worked in an environment that is ISO27001 compliant or equivalent
? Knowledge of DevOps, automation, developer productivity and security using IaC
? Cisco networking qualifications
? Microsoft SQL Server Operations and Administration
? Management and administration of a Cloud environment (ideally Azure)
? Onboarding infrastructure from mergers and acquisitions
