Lead Architect - Contract Role (Public Sector)
- Contract Length: 6 months

- Location: Hybrid (2-4 days/month on-site in the Midlands)
- Rate: £800+ per day
Overview
Xpertise are working with a government agency that is undergoing a major digital and organisational transformation and is seeking a Lead Architect to support the development of future-state architecture across complex national services.
This role will sit at the intersection of business strategy and technology delivery, providing architectural leadership across enterprise, technical, and solution domains. The successful candidate will help shape long-term business design, guide technology investment decisions, and ensure solutions are scalable, sustainable, and aligned to strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and governance of enterprise-wide architecture strategies and frameworks.
- Translate strategic business goals into architectural models and capability statements.
- Provide technical direction and assurance across multi-disciplinary teams and programmes.
- Champion architectural standards, patterns, and documentation to support quality and consistency.
- Oversee architecture governance forums and ensure alignment with the target architecture.
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders across departments and external partners.
- Support the evolution of architecture to meet changing service design and user needs.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Extensive experience in enterprise architecture leadership within central government or the public sector.
- Strong knowledge of TOGAF or equivalent frameworks (e.g. BCS, Zachman, Gartner).
- Familiarity with GDS standards and agile delivery environments.
- Proven ability to lead architecture across complex, multi-service environments.
- Experience with cloud architecture (Azure/AWS), modelling languages (Archimate, UML, BPMN), and modern IT infrastructure.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, influencing, and negotiation skills.
- Understanding of service management frameworks (e.g. ITIL, ISO 9001/27001).
