We have 24 employees working from our offices and occasionally from home. The nature of our business means we are predominately a face to face as well as online and telephone-based business.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Xpertise has now completed its first formal carbon footprint assessment, covering the 2025 calendar year, and this is adopted as the baseline against which future reduction will be measured. The assessment covers Scope 1, Scope 2 (office electricity and occupancy across Derby, Manchester and London) and the required Scope 3 categories (employee commuting; business travel by car and rail). Methodology, data sources and the specific assumptions used are set out in the Methodology & Assumptions section at the end of this Plan.

27 unique employees were in scope during 2025 (Derby, Manchester, London), equivalent to an average of 21.8 full-time-equivalent employees across the year once joiners and leavers are accounted for. Scope 2 for Derby is based on actual metered/billed electricity spend; Scope 2 for Manchester and London (all-inclusive serviced-office licence fees with no separable utility billing) uses an industry consumption benchmark, flagged in the Methodology section. No company-owned or leased vehicles (Scope 1 = nil). Figures exclude the Atlanta, USA office, which had not launched during 2026 see note under Current Emissions Reporting below.

Note on 2026 developments (Atlanta office):

Xpertise opened a new office in Atlanta, Georgia (US) in 2026. This was not part of the 2025 baseline and its emissions will fall entirely within the 2026 reporting year figures above, to be finalised once the year's data is complete.

Emissions reduction targets

With a 2025 baseline now established, Xpertise is able to set a quantified reduction trajectory. We project that carbon emissions will decrease to approximately 19.2 tCO2e by 2031 (a 25% reduction against the 25.63 tCO2e 2025 baseline), consistent with the medium-term objectives set out below.

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

This is Xpertise's first Carbon Reduction Plan with a measured baseline. Consistent with our Environmental & Sustainability Policy, we have already put in place: a formal flexible and hybrid working policy to reduce employee commuting; a preference for rail over air for business travel where feasible; reduced printing and paper use; and a per-head target for business travel emissions. The 2025 baseline data confirms employee commuting is by far our largest measured source of emissions (17.46 tCO2e, over two-thirds of the current total), so hybrid working and any further commuting-focused measures are expected to have the greatest impact on our trajectory.

We project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to approximately 19.2 tCO2e by 2031. This is a reduction of 25%.

Future carbon reduction initiatives

In the future we hope to implement further measures such as:

Short-Term (0-3 Years)

  • Reduce office energy consumption through efficiency measures
  • Implement hybrid/remote working to decrease commuting emissions — now in place
  • Shift business travel towards rail over air where feasible — in place, and confirmed by the 2025 data (rail now the primary mode for Derby-London and Manchester-Derby travel)
  • Ensure all waste is recycled or responsibly processed — in place
  • Introduce a supplier sustainability checklist
  • Adopt LED/PIR lighting controls — in place
  • Begin annual carbon footprint reporting — 2025 baseline now complete; 2026 to follow
  • Obtain actual electricity meter readings and a supplier-confirmed unit rate for Derby, and, where possible, separately metered or itemised utility data for Manchester and London, to replace the estimates used in this baseline

Medium-Term (3-7 Years)

  • Transition to 100% renewable electricity in all offices
  • Introduce low-carbon procurement standards
  • Reduce business travel emissions by 10%
  • Digitise more recruitment processes to reduce paper use
  • Partner only with service providers demonstrating sustainability commitments
  • Establish a specific plan to manage and offset unavoidable Atlanta-related transatlantic travel emissions

Long-Term (7+ Years)

  • Collaborate with clients and candidates to promote sustainable recruitment practices

Declaration and Sign Off

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 006 and associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans.

Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard, and uses the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting.

Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions have been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and signed off by the board of directors (or equivalent management body).
