Staff Engineer – Backend (Python | SaaS | Scale-Up) Remote (first 3–6 months), then Hybrid – 3 days/week in London office Circa £130,000 + Stock Options

Our client is building cutting-edge AI systems that tackle some of the most complex challenges in multi-document reasoning and workflow orchestration—particularly within the insurance claims space. Their platform processes thousands of concurrent workflows, reasoning across fragmented documents, timelines, and regulatory constraints in real time.

As they continue to scale and prepare for expansion, including securing office space in London, they’re looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to architect and build the core infrastructure powering their AI-driven platform.

What You’ll Do:

• Design and build backend systems that support millions of concurrent operations with sub-second response times

• Architect scalable infrastructure for multi-agent AI workflows

• Lead technical innovation across a high-performing engineering team

• Collaborate on system interfaces, performance engineering, and distributed architecture

• Contribute to a platform that transforms how a $9T industry operates

What You’ll Bring:

• 10+ years of backend engineering experience

• Expert-level Python skills, especially in async programming and performance optimization

• Experience building scalable systems for SaaS platforms or complex web applications

• Strong background in distributed systems, API design, and database performance

• Previous experience in a startup or scale-up environment is essential

• STEM degree (Computer Science preferred, but any STEM discipline accepted)

• Excellent communication and leadership skills

Nice to Have:

• Experience with TypeScript/Node.js

• Exposure to AI/ML platforms or document processing systems

• Familiarity with regulated industries and compliance-driven workflows

• Cloud platform experience (AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerized deployments
