About the Role:
We're working in partnership with our client in the Public Sector to recruit talented Software Developers who will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering digital services that impact millions across the UK. This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking, Agile team committed to innovation, collaboration, and user-centric design.
As a key member of a multi-disciplinary delivery team, you'll contribute to the full software development lifecycle, from design and build to support and continuous improvement, ensuring solutions meet user needs and align with government digital standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain digital services and software solutions that meet the service standard.
- Work within Agile (Scrum) teams alongside developers, testers, analysts, product owners, and scrum masters.
- Prioritise user experience and accessibility in all aspects of development.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to accelerate delivery and foster a culture of innovation.
- Deliver full lifecycle development using technologies such as Java, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Apply best practices in software engineering including code reviews, refactoring, automated testing, and documentation.
- Use tools such as Git for version control and Jira for task management.
- Share knowledge across teams to promote reusability and continuous improvement.
- Provide ongoing support and maintenance of systems.
- Occasionally participate in out-of-hours work when required.
Leadership & Mentoring:
- Support and mentor Junior and Apprentice Developers.
- Lead by example, embodying Civil Service values and contributing to a high-performing team culture.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Internal: Report to the Senior Developer and collaborate with technical authorities, analysts, product owners, and support teams.
- External: Liaise with third-party suppliers to ensure seamless integration and delivery.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Strong experience in Agile software development environments.
- Proficient in Java and front-end technologies.
- Passionate about user-centred design and digital transformation.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience in mentoring or leading junior team members is a plus.
