Director of Engineering

Location: Nottingham | Working Pattern: 5 days per week in the office | Salary: £110,000 - £130,000 base + Bonus + Car allowance

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a Director of Engineering to lead the creation and delivery of a brand-new product from concept through to market launch. This is a highly strategic role where you will work at the intersection of technology, product and commercial strategy, shaping a market-leading proposition with significant organisational investment behind it.

Joining a well-established organisation embarking on a major product transformation initiative, you will have the opportunity to operate with a start-up mindset while benefiting from the support, stability and resources of an established business. Working closely with a Product Director, you will define the product roadmap, lead technical delivery and build the engineering capability required to bring a new product to market within the next 18 months.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the engineering strategy for a new finance product
• Partner closely with the Product Director to shape roadmap, delivery plans and market proposition
• Lead product development from initial concept through to launch and ongoing growth
• Provide technical leadership across engineering and architecture disciplines
• Build and scale engineering capability in line with product growth objectives
• Drive the adoption of AI-enabled development practices, including code generation and LLM-based solutions
• Manage senior stakeholders and provide strategic technology leadership
• Ensure high-quality, scalable and commercially viable product delivery

Requirements

• Proven experience building and launching new products from scratch
• Strong engineering leadership background with close proximity to technology and architecture
• Ability to define product strategy and translate vision into delivery outcomes
• Commercial awareness with experience assessing market opportunities and product viability
• Experience collaborating closely with Product and Architecture teams
• Strong understanding of AI and its practical application within product development
• Excellent stakeholder management and leadership skills at executive level

Desirable Experience

• Experience leading engineering teams within fintech, financial services or highly regulated environments
• Exposure to scaling engineering functions from small teams to larger delivery organisations
• Experience working within both established corporate environments and high-growth product initiatives
• Track record of delivering innovative, market-differentiating products

Key Details

This is a rare opportunity to join a strategically important programme and take ownership of a new product initiative with significant investment and visibility. The engineering team will initially be small, with plans to scale from approximately 8-10 people to around 50, leveraging AI-driven delivery approaches rather than traditional headcount growth.

Location: Nottingham

Salary: £110,000 - £130,000 base + Bonus

Car Allowance: Circa £7,000 per annum

Working Pattern: Office-based, 5 days per week
