CTO / Chief Technology Officer - Insuretech - Start up VC backed post seed currently around 30 heads already - you should be US based and able to work in NYC 1-2 days a week in the office, the rest can be remote - circa $300k base + equity.
The Insurtech are doing something never done/achieved before using AI/LLM focused tech to disrupt a £72bn insurance industry. You will be building an AI native insurtech at the core.
To be super clear we are looking for a start up CTO or Founder Engineer who has a track record of scaling engineering teams in a VC backed environment, you will probably not code as the 0-1 product is already built but will be hands on and able to lift the bonnet, own the architecture/systems design strategy, and managing and lead a small team starting with 8 people today although we are also hiring 4 further engineers. You will walk into a team with a VP of engineering in place, a very strong staff engineer plus a founding product engineer.
You will have an authentic, driven leadership style and will be a key part of future funding raises. You will work with a sense of urgency to build the company at pace.
You will continue working on the MVP, building prototypes, working with the C suite & external customers, requirements definitions and basically getting the product from 1.5 to 2+!
The business is VC backed so you must have experience working as a founder / start up /scale up CTO which is VC backed with some success stories!
The product build is highly complex and will include building LLMs into the platforms, lots of API integrations and basically building an AI assistant for the industry. They have gone down the Python, GCP tech stack route for the soup to nuts build to date. The product is processing thousands of concurrent AI operations in sub second response.
Experience as a "founding engineer" or CTO in a start up in a role that has scaled that required both technical execution and strategic insight is expected, with an emphasis on the ability to remain deeply involved in technology trends and developments. The hired candidate will come from a software engineering background.
This is an opportunity to design and build upon an ideal architecture upon which an AI native driven operating system.
Integrating best-in-class third party platforms and technologies to define the architecture of the AI product suite.
Then build a team within the US & UK and leverage nearshore talent when advantageous.
Proven background blending both strategic/leadership and technical responsibilities around modern technology development and innovation.
Ideal candidates should hold a track record of leading and and innovating within a tech-driven environment & building a team culture.
Establishing and scaling technology functions from the initial hires to large multi-disciplinary teams.
Strong awareness of information security and system security practices and capable of addressing the rapidly evolving challenge of AI safety and alignment.
Developing tools and platforms with a focus on process efficiencies, data and document handling, and creating high-quality, low-friction user interfaces.
Owning the technology roadmap and deploying resources at early-stage or venture-funded companies.
Developing or integrating AI assistants, Data Science functions or deploying and maintaining Machine Learning services within production environments.
A willingness to get involved in development activities, build prototypes, and take the lead on building a competitive advantage through technology.
Ideally experience within regulated industries such as: finance, healthcare, insurance.
